The 2nd call for applications for Villa Medici is open!

As part of the “Reenchanting the Villa Medici” project, the Villa Medici is launching a second call for applications after a first one launched in the fall of 2022 for the renovation of 9 of its rooms. This one is open until May 30th.

Launched by the Academy of France in Rome and the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation in the fall of 2022, the first call for projects for the redevelopment of the 9 guest rooms of the Villa Medici announced the winners of the first competition in late March. The Camera Fantasia project by Gaëlle Gabillet and Stéphane Villard (Studio GGSV) & Riccardo Cavaciocchi (Paper Factor) and Matthieu Lemarié and Studiolo by Sébastien Kieffer and Léa Padovani (Pool) & Romain Boulais and Félix Lévêque (Atelier Veneer) are the ones that caught the attention of the jury following this first call for projects. In the wake of this, the second call for applications was launched, still for the same large-scale redevelopment project extended between 2022 and 2025.

A high-end selection committee

For this project, the selection committee is composed of Alberto Cavalli, executive director of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship and general curator of Homo Faber, Domitilla Dardi, design historian and founder of EDIT Napoli, Hedwige Gronier, head of cultural patronage at the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, Hervé Lemoine, Hervé Lemoine, President of the Mobilier National, Christine Macel, Director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, India Mahdavi, architect, designer and scenographer, Isabelle de Ponfilly, President of the Board of Directors of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, and Sam Stourdzé, Director of the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Médicis.

Applications must be sent by email on the dedicated platform before May 30th. The jury will then review the applications and select the finalist teams in July before announcing the final projects in September 2023, while a third and final call for projects will be launched in the fall.
