Orrefors is a manufacturer with an international reputation for the quality of its transparent glass. At Stockholm Design Week, Orrefors’ recent collaboration with designer Monica Förster for the Reed collection was on display.
In July 2020, Monica Förster was enjoying the middle of summer on an island deserted by tourists due to Covid. In residence at the Villa San Michele in Anacapri, she was inspired by the magnificent garden and the surrounding landscape to design a collection for Orrefors called Reed. The idea? To transcribe in the sensuality of glass, the delicate movements perceived in nature, that of the plants under a breeze, the murmur of the sea, the play of shadows and light. Relying on the high technicality of the craftsmen of the manufacture, she decided – as a good designer! – to thwart the constraint and turn it into an asset. She therefore relied on the junctions of the different sections of the glass to accentuate these edges and subtly give movement to this series of sculptural vases. Just sublime! Staged in a plant decor and accompanied by a very soft sound composition, the presentation of the collection offered a moment of beautiful poetry in the frenzy of the Stockholm Design Week.
