French Institute of Design

The French Institute of Design (IFD), founded in 1951 by Jacques Viénot, figure of French design, is an organization aiming to promote design in the industry, and selects products and services that prioritize respect for the user and of its environment.

The IFD therefore rewards design in industry every year by awarding Janus, which are labels awarded in different categories (see paragraph below). These labels are granted according to fundamental criteria that the Institute strives to apply, which are the “5E”, for: Economy, Ergonomics, Aesthetics, Ethics and Emotion.
