During Milan Design Week, from April 17 to 23, Atelier Sedap will be at Zeus Noto for the first time. The opportunity to present the products of its latest catalog Nuances et matières, created in collaboration with Normal Studio.
Created in 1968, Atelier Sedap’s ambition is to explore plaster in all its forms by pushing the techniques of its implementation to the maximum. A craft know-how passed down from generation to generation whose heritage was rewarded in 2014 by the award of the EPV label, Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company).
Revisiting historical collections
In order to highlight the unparalleled potential of plaster as a noble material, the brand’s artistic directors, Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï, have decided to revisit its historical collections with the “Nuances et Matières” selection. Plaster is one of those healthy, strong and durable materials, ideal for designing all kinds of ornaments, fixtures and other objects. They reinterpret the brand’s emblematic products: wall lights, ceiling lights, hanging lights… They have also succeeded in revealing the creative potential of the texture of plaster; an innovative approach specific to Normal Studio, the industrial design agency with which they collaborate.
This experimentation on handmade products allows to generate a craft writing, which gives to the finished products more roughness, shine and reflections.

Designed from a combination of shades and mineral inclusions, the Nuances et Matières selection stands out for its unique textures and shades, as it is available in four colors – Gypsum, Sandstone, Clay, Tuff – and in three inclusions of biosourced or recycled mineral raw materials: Marin (mussel shells), Emerald (crushed green glass), Coral (Cristobalite crushed)
