In 2024, Villa Kujoyama will host about 15 candidates for a 4 to 6 month research residency. Registration is open until April 7.
The residency at Villa Kujoyama is for established artists and creators who have an original and unique research project that requires an immersion and research stay in Japan. The project in question must be linked to the issues of the territory and must be able to generate an active dialogue with the local actors met on site. The selection process is open to artists and creators working in a variety of art-related disciplines, from design to film to music to dance. In total, some fifteen disciplines are involved.
Application procedures
For the 2024 residency, candidates can choose to propose solo, duo, or French-Japanese pairing projects, with some conditions to respect:
- Solo: the candidate is French or foreign but must have been living in France for at least 5 years and present a research project for a 4, 5 or 6 month residency
- Duo: the two candidates are French or foreigners but have been living in France for at least 5 years and present a common project for a 4-month residency
- French-Japanese pair: the candidate may be French or foreign but has been living in France for at least 5 years and proposes a joint research project in collaboration with a Japanese candidate living in Japan, for a 4-month residency
At the time of application, candidates have the opportunity to indicate their preference in terms of residency dates. However, the Residences Department of the French Institute and the Villa Kujoyama team reserve the right to adapt the period requested and its duration to the availability of accommodation and to the 2024 activity calendar. The number of accepted applications will be limited to 250 before selection by a jury of experts and professionals in the relevant disciplines.
Selection Schedule:
Until April 7th : Submission of applications on the platform Ifprog
April – May 2023: Pre-selection. Only pre-selected candidates will be informed by email the last week of May.
Week of June 5th : Audition of shortlisted candidates.
July : Final Jury
End of July : Announcement of the results to the laureates who are personally notified of their selection. No decision taken by the jury can be appealed.
